Meet Courtney

I am a seasoned executive recruiter and coach who excels at guiding clients and companies through the subtle complexities of executive level work to help position them for success and fulfillment.

As I made my way through my education and career, I balanced out my sleek corporate exterior by continually immersing myself in ancient Eastern philosophies, mainly the Vedas and Upanishads, as well as Tibetan Buddhism. Now an experienced yoga teacher, reiki practitioner, and meditation guide, I have a deep understanding of how energy affects all aspects of life, including executive development.

THE STORY

  • Chapter 1

    Roots

Recruiting is in my blood. In my youth, my dad worked in large companies as a staffing director before running his own executive search firm for over two decades. I was exposed to so many different careers just by listening to his conversations and looking at old resumes strewn across his desk.

I essentially learned about interviewing, talent development, and negotiation through osmosis since my dad worked from home before working from home was a thing. Having all his knowledge about careers at my fingertips should have helped me easily decide on my own career path when the time came.

  • Chapter 2

    Irony

Years later, at college graduation, I had no idea which path to choose. It was also the height of the recession and the job market was bleak. However, I managed to work my minimal contacts, landed an interview at a massive pop culture magazine, and breezed through the interview process thanks to those years of observation. With zero experience, I secured a job in the middle of the job market tundra. I got my ticket to New York. Impressive, right?

Just a couple of months in, I was miserable. From the outside, I had a perfect job and a bright future. But I didn’t have a purpose. I didn't feel useful. I didn't believe in what I was doing and that soon wore me down. How could I, of all people, have picked the wrong career? The irony was sour.

  • Chapter 3

    Path

I left that job, started bartending, and reluctantly began helping my dad source candidates. I was good at both. And despite vowing that I’d never work for my dad full time, I started working for my dad full time.

Why? Because I’d found myself engrossed in the resumes I was reading every day, and wanted to witness their next step. I wanted to hear the voice behind the resume, and be useful and purposeful. I’d found my path. It had been right in front of me my entire conscious life, but sometimes, most times, our purpose isn't clear to us. It can take months or even years at a soul-sucking job to realize it’s time to pivot.

  • Chapter 4

    Nuance

During my years in executive recruitment, I’ve witnessed people make massive career changes that had a profound effect on their lives. Through intense interviewing and high-level discussions with hiring executives, I tapped into my intuition to determine where candidates would thrive.

Executive recruiting is different from in-house or contingency recruiting. I worked closely with SVPs in a variety of industries on a retained basis for 3-9 months. This requires an immense amount of research, executive level knowledge, and the ability to understand the desires of both the C-suite and the candidate. Along with understanding of positions, companies, and intuition, I realized how the nuances and dynamics of different personalities played a crucial role.

  • Chapter 5

    Om mani padme om

I’ve been practicing yoga consistently for over 15 years and received my teaching certification in 2018. At a Buddhist monastery in Nepal, I learned meditation, and it has served me both personally and in my career since. I actively teach yoga now, and find that there is little separation between my roles as a career guide and yogi. I tap into that practice to center myself. In turn, I guide mentees and candidates on how to harness those skills and listen to their inner voice in order to clearly see their true path and land the right job. I meet you where you are to find where you should be.

  • Chapter 6

    Voice

My hobby, from childhood on, was theater. I spent much time in acting classes and onstage, from hometown productions to off-Broadway shows. I’ve always felt called to use my voice to communicate a message. Combining all my skills and interests led me to host “Resume Well” a podcast featuring upbeat and in-depth conversations on careers and wellbeing with a variety of professionals proving that you can, in fact, be happy in your career!
